ELIGIBILITY: |
||||||||
| Awards for airfare expenses for travel to conferences or symposia of professional societies are made to Academic Senate Members, Research Scientists or Project Scientists who are presenting papers on their research or who are organizing and presiding over one or more sessions in the meeting. In the case of Project Scientists, the application should include a paragraph justifying the exception to policy. | ||||||||
GUIDELINES: |

| If partial support is available to you from other sources, this information must be provided at the time you submit the application (question #3). A letter of invitation must accompany each application. | ||||||||
| Only the presenting author may apply for a travel award. | ||||||||
| Only one trip per fiscal year (July 1-June 30) for any Senate member will be awarded. However, there is no limit to the number of travel awards faculty may receive over a period of years. | ||||||||
| Cost of side trips unrelated to the conference funded will be deducted. | ||||||||
| No service fees will be paid; therefore, applicant may use any means to book travel. | ||||||||
| For workshops and other ad-hoc meetings of prominent members of the academic community that are not sponsored by a continuing Professional Society, the applicant should provide a short explanation of the scholarly goals of the meeting. | ||||||||
| Invitations to participate in conferences organized by universities, departments, or institutes cannot be supported. | ||||||||
| Award Amounts | ||||||||
| Domestic: | Awards are made for the lowest published air coach fare. Ceilings are $500 for the Eastern/Atlantic time zone, $400 for the Central time zone (including the states of Washington, Oregon, Hawaii & Alaska) and $300 for the Mountain/Pacific time zones. Travel to Mexico and Canada are awarded under domestic travel policies. |
| Foreign: | Foreign travel will be supported for the lowest published or actual fare, whichever is lower (quotation from travel agency, airline, or internet is required). Awards will not exceed $1,000, and will not be honored to subsidize fare upgrades. These funds are not restricted to the use of U.S. carriers.
At the discretion of the subcommittee, in cases where the applicant is invited to be a keynote speaker at a major conference, foreign travel up to the full airfare may be awarded; e.g., the present $1,000 ceiling may be exceeded. |

HOW TO APPLY: |
Submit the original Request for Travel Expenses to a Scholarly Meeting, the abstract, and acceptance of the paper on the program to The Marine Sciences Subcommittee on Research |
| If the paper acceptance is still pending at the time of submission, travel support may be approved, but funds will not be released until receipt of these documents. |
