UCSD Policy on Cancellation of Classes | |
| 1. | After the completion of the second week of classes (Week 2), courses may be cancelled only for cause and with the written permission of the Chair of the Department, College, or Curriculum within which the course is offered. |
| 2. | After consultation with the originally scheduled instructor, but prior to the cancellation of a class, the department will make a good faith effort to find an alternative instructor (including the naming of an Associate-In) for the course - if the reason for the cancellation of the course is the unexpected unavailability of the scheduled instructor of that course. It is expected that the same syllabus and textbook that were originally assigned for the course would be used by the alternative instructor. |
| 3. | If a course is cancelled, all students enrolled in that course will be individually notified of the cancellation of the class and of alternatives open to them. A copy of this notification will be provided to the College in which the student is a member and to the Office of the Registrar. |
| 4. | If a suitable alternative class (i.e. a class that will satisfy the same requirements that would have been satisfied by the course being cancelled) cannot be found for a student enrolled in a cancelled class, that student should be offered the option of enrollment in an appropriate individualized study course. The department will assist such students in whatever petition process is necessary to allow the individualized study course to serve the same function in meeting requirements that the cancelled course would have provided. |
| 5. | When a class is cancelled after Week 2, the student will be withdrawn from the class without penalty of record. [Students, however, remain responsible for assuring that they are enrolled in the minimum number of hours required for financial aid, timely progress to the degree, requirements for reinstatement, etc.] |
| 6. | Work load credit for courses cancelled after Week 2 will not accrue to the department or faculty member of the cancelled course. |
